I am a theatre academic and cultural worker based between Aarhus, Denmark and Glasgow, Scotland. My research specialism is in political performance, migration and human rights. I am particularly interested in socially engaged art practices, and understanding their contentious relation to emerging and established cultural institutions.
I write about key political debates, critical theory and performance art, some research articles of which feature as reading in courses on theatre and migration at the universities of Glasgow, Ottawa, Groningen, Winchester and Reading. Currently, I am working on my research monograph Performing Human Rights (Routledge), and a special issue on “Performing North/South”. Since 2018, I am co-editing the Scottish Journal of Performance. In 2019, I was awarded the TaPRA Essay Prize for my research about urban solidarity and theatre director Akira Takayama.
My teaching combines practice-based and critical methods. Among others, in 2019/20 I have taught and co-designed a core practice-based module at the University of Glasgow about contemporary performance and human rights, and I have taught theatre courses about feminist, queer and postcolonial theory at the Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
